What type of home and features do Brits desire most?

Whilst flicking through interiors magazines on a lazy Sunday, it is easy to picture life inside the stunning properties that lace the glossy pages; however, what features and homes do Brits desire most?

According to a survey of 1,000 people carried out by trendy interiors brand Arlo & Jacob, Brits are reasonably content with their lot. The most popular property choice is a three-bedroomed semi-detached house, with socialising high on the agenda of specific desires. Doors to the garden and smart TVs are high on the list of priorities, while a whopping 42 per cent would love an island in the kitchen, the heart of the home. Over 30 per cent requested smart kitchen appliances, including a dishwasher, washing machine, fridge and coffee maker.

Outdoor space is also important

Almost half of those surveyed would love a rear garden, while 27 per cent would opt for a barbecue and cooking area for entertaining guests. When it comes to outdoor luxury, 20 per cent would love a hot tub, swimming pool or summerhouse to enjoy those long, hot summers the Brits so desperately crave.

Whether a Chelsea mansion or a more modest property, always get a homebuyers report London to ensure your dream home doesn’t turn out to be a nightmare.

Whilst 20 per cent dreamed of alfresco living, more than 40 per cent of those surveyed were a bit more realistic about the British climate; perhaps unsurprisingly, a large open fireplace was top of the list. Almost 35 per cent would love a balcony off the bedroom, while 60 per cent would enjoy the luxury of an en-suite bathroom.

Interior design

When it comes to furniture, 38 per cent of Brits would splash out on a corner sofa and 25 per cent dream of a four-poster bed. A 400-year-old hand-crafted bed would be the envy of the neighbourhood – assuming you could get it up the stairs!

When marketing your home, the main takeaway from this survey is to consider creating social spaces. With almost half our time spent at home, many people seek modern spaces with a touch of luxury, whilst others seek traditional log fires and warm cosy rugs for a very British aesthetic.
